This is not a bootstrapping story. I’m aware tha This is not a bootstrapping story. I’m aware that I could better grow my fame and fans by offering more aspirational content about how I changed my life from broke to banking it and how awesome it is to go to the grocery store and get whatever I want, to donate what I used to earn in a month, and find work fun.

I could totally tell my story like this and sling:
~I did it using my brain~
~and you can too~

But I’m too much about
History
Accuracy
Honesty
to play like that. 💅

Yes it is 100% possible to radically improve your work and money life.

And:

No one can promise you how probable it is, which has as much to do with work as with the zip code you got born in and luck

Getting money isn’t the end of the game, and worshipping wealth has all kinds of nefarious religious origins (that I write about in my newest blog post)

It’s not enough for just one of us to make it out, though I celebrate each of you that are making it too

#Strategy is the art of improving your odds, and I teach folks how to create their own #values-based financial strategies. But even strategy is no guarantee.

Telling #bootstrapping success stories isn’t strategy - it’s #mythology. I want you to have tools, not idols. Options, not out of reach goalposts.

I want, for myself, to be able to grow and share without reinforcing a damaging kind of story. No bootstrapping, just #boots here at Ride Free.
Taxes were contested as unconstitutional in the 18 Taxes were contested as unconstitutional in the 1880s -- and it wasn’t until 1913 that income taxes and corporate taxes officially started.

Right after the invention of the assembly line and the mass employment of individual workers began -- and right as WW1 was picking up. Taxes in the US have always been tied to war and control of individuals.

However, that’s not the only way they can be applied. The EU today may have higher tax rates but costs of living are much lower due to so many benefits like health care, education, nice public housing and end of life care. In India, taxation has always focused on a “maximum social welfare principle” and ensuring that taxation didn’t over-draw from people.

This thread is GOLD because it surfaces an issue a lot of people are facing: the cost of housing -- and living -- is rising faster than wages, and for people without family help that means the burden is on us to get that money. Ourselves.

Yes, you can put down 3.5% or 5% on a mortgage to make it more affordable. Yes there are programs to help with closing costs [google “down payment assistance program + your city”]. Yes you can probably cut costs or make more money and save up and eventually get yours.

But that doesn’t make it easy, especially in a competitive sellers market, or change the bare fact that privilege makes things that should be human rights accessible to the few and a ridiculous hurdle for the many.

Look: if you have a family who has money and will help you. THANK GOODNESS. And if you don't...the math is above and the only way thru is saving up those dimes and working together.

Are taxes an evil tool of the government or collec Are taxes an evil tool of the government or collective wealth?

Hint: they can be both. And more.

In my new blog post I skim the global history of taxes to dive into understanding why -- in the US -- we might believe they’re “bad” and what else taxes might do for us.

Happy tax season!! Remember
Do you apply any of these when you make your money Do you apply any of these when you make your money plans?
